The West Suburban Humane Society offers tours of our facility for scouts and other groups.

Tours includes an opportunity to learn about what we do, an overview of how we operate, and a visit with some of our animals.

Tours are by appointment and we ask for a $5 donation per participant.  Additionally, some groups choose to bring in donations (view a list of suggested donations here). Scout groups can purchase fun patches for an additional $2.00 each.

Cat Tales - Fall 2026

Looking for a way to get your child to read more? We might have the answer.  How about having your child read to our cats? Not only will it help your child, but this program helps the cats become a little more socialized and gives them a chance to get some TLC in the process.

The Cat Tales Program will meet every Wednesday for 45 mins. We will start on Wednesday, September 23rd and meet every Wednesday until November 18th. NO CLASS ON OCTOBER 7^TH. Class will start at 3:30 and end at 4:15. During that time we will begin with a whole group read and then have the children find a spot in our Cattery and start reading. The last five minutes will be time to play with the kittens.  We ask that the children be in K-5^th grade.

The program is limited to 12 children, and we ask for a donation of $80.00 (8 sessions) to have your child participate.

Barks & Books - Fall 2026

Looking for a way to get your child to read more? We might have the answer.  How about having your child read to our therapy dogs?  This canine-assisted read aloud program is a class where children read aloud to a trained therapy dog.  The dog is a patient listener who offers unconditional love and acceptance, allowing your child to practice reading aloud without fear or criticism.

Are you looking for a unique way to celebrate your child’s birthday? Consider having your child’s birthday party at West Suburban Humane Society in our Humane Education room. Party-goers will tour the adoption center and have lots of time to interact with our cats and dogs. Support a great cause and throw your child a party they will always remember. If you would prefer to have your party elsewhere, you can still help homeless cats and dogs by having a birthday party or other fundraiser with the West Suburban Humane Society as the theme.Send a list of needed supplies (or suggested cash donation) with your party or event invitations. Then, after the party, schedule a time to drop off the donations and take a tour of the shelter. Participants will also receive a certificate commemorating the event and a picture for our Facebook page.
