Funny how I got my name: the lady who rescued me from the barn where I lived thought I sounded like an old female cat so she called me Granny! It wasn't until I was saved from the garbage-piled stable that they noticed I wasn't an old granny, but since I knew the name, it was changed to Gammy.  That was back in 2003 and I was the last of 32 cats to be rescued from that stinking, horrible place. While I wanted a better life, I was terrified, and I proved elusive for a while.

Once I was safe, it took a very long time for me to trust, but eventually, I relaxed and got used to living back in a home (I must have lived in a home at some time because I am neutered and declawed). One thing my rescuers noticed right away is that I detest other cats and dogs. I don't just run away from them, I will go on the offensive. I had to protect myself for a long time, so it's only natural.

After some time passed, a home was found for me and on the surface, things seemed good. But after two weeks, I was returned in rather poor condition. I had lost weight in such a short time, and after some investigation, it turns out my new owner was not a stable person at all. I was happy to be back at my rescuers' house. I loved them and was fine as soon as I got back.

Again, time went by until another home was found. This person lived alone, had a slight handicap, but understood what a horrible life I had early on and knew I needed time to cope with change and to adjust in a quiet home. This seemed like the perfect fit for me. Unfortunately, it did not turn out the way I had hoped. My owner had some issues which made the living conditions quite volatile. I lived in fear, never knowing when the noise and chaos would come. In the three years I lived there, I was never petted or held.  My owner told all of this to my rescuer and I was brought back again, much to my relief. I spent the first three weeks sleeping in a closet, because that is how I had to work through the stress of my previous home.

I am about 10 years old and I have never had an easy life. There is nothing exceptional about me, but I am a very low maintenance boy. If I were good with other cats and dogs, my rescuers would just keep me, but they have some of each and it's not fair for me to have to stay in one small room all the time. I deserve permanency after all I have been through, and need a quiet home and an owner with a lot of compassion and patience. I am worth loving and I just need someone to let me show it.
