Volunteer Spotlight - Monday Midday Kennel

One thing that’s clear about the Monday mid-day kennel crew is that they enjoy having food and parties on their shift almost as much as they enjoy helping the dogs find their forever homes.

In fact, Rosie DiCianni says, “We are known for our parties”.  Anne Fadzi agrees, noting that most of the shift mates have been together a long time and work well together as a team.

Linda Marrandino, who started volunteering at West Suburban 25 years ago, enjoys playing with the dogs at West Suburban, as well as her own two German shepherds, both adopted from WSHS. Ed Jakubas adopted his white shepherd Jack (FKA Echo) from WSHS in 2007 and says he’s still going strong! Anne is currently fostering cattle dog mix, Kroger. Rosie also has a cattle dog mix, Chloe, adopted from West Suburban, along with Mitzie, a 9-year old golden retriever. Newest shift member Mark Havey, who started volunteering last March, has three dogs, a rabbit and a rat at home.

While all the shift mates have a love of animals in common, their other interests are a bit more diverse. When she is not at volunteering at West Suburban, Linda enjoys gardening, horseback riding, and yoga.  You might find Rosie spending time with her kids and her dogs when she is not working as a nurse at Loyola. Anne’s hobbies include photography and reading mysteries, while Ed enjoys volunteering with the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
